Alder, also referred to as “poor man’s cherry” is a great choice for that old farmhouse look. While it is usually less expensive than cherry, it still provides deep rich colors, durability, and character. This Inset Farmhouse kitchen was designed to replicate the original 1800s pantry doors that still function in this home. With a combination of stain, colored lacquer, glazing, distressing, and rub though, we were able to recreate and match these original doors to make this new kitchen feel like it’s been there for centuries.
